Sexual harassment

"Any sexually oriented attention experienced in the workplace which creates discomfort or threatens one’s well‑being and/or functioning. It can range from leering, patting, touching, verbal comments, jokes, the display of pornographic material, to attempted sexual assault or sexual assault. The harasser may be an employer, a supervisor, an employee, a customer, a co-worker, etc. It is a form of discrimination, an abuse of power and violence against women. "

Strategies:

  • Talk to your co-workers about what is happening;

  • Make it clearly understood to the harasser that you are not interested in any of his or her advances;

  • Keep a diary or journal of all the events as they occur ( dates, specific locations, times, detailed accounts of each incident, names and telephone number of witnesses if any);

  • Contact a support group.
